We have published an article a few months ago highlighting a few initiatives we undertook in our aim to be as green as possible as a business. Of course, eco-friendliness is an ongoing commitment and we thought we'd share some new initiatives we have underway on the matter.

Vegan certification

We passed!

We wrote another blog post a while ago about different terms such as natural or vegan, what they mean and how they are regulated, more specifically for perfumery.

In this article, we uncovered that the term “vegan” is one of the loosest. As the term “vegan” is yet to be legally defined under Australian Law, it makes it hard to tightly regulate its use beyond Australia’s Consumer and Fair Trading laws about not misleading consumers.

We therefore advised to always look at ingredient lists to ensure that a vegan claim is founded and/or rely on products that are certified vegan by a trustworthy third-party outlet such as Vegan Australia.

We got in touch with Vegan Australia and started an application for certification of all our perfumes and... *drumroll*... we passed! All our products are now certified vegan.

A vegan certification was a no-brainer for us. The vegan philosophy is about excluding all forms of exploitation and cruelty towards animals from the products we use, consume and surround ourselves with. By being certified vegan, our products are therefore certified cruelty-free and we are extremely proud of this achievement.

Eco Mailers

Hex Wrap

Our perfumes require some padding when shipped in order not to break during transport. We were using a padded ecomailer but we often had to double up with plastic bubble wrap to ensure the safety of the shipment.

Bubble wrap can take up to 1,000 years to decompose in the landfill and that just rubbed us the wrong way.

We switched Hex Wrap from Heapsgood. Hex Wrap is an alternative to bubble wrap made of expandable Kraft paper. It is 100% recyclable and compostable and a great alternative to bubble wrap to protect fragile items. Bonus added, it comes in a honeycomb structure that interlocks without needing non-recyclable tape!

Ecolabel

Sometimes, it's the little things…

We use a thermal printer and paper to print out shipping labels to stick on our parcels. With classic label rolls, the adhesive part can leave harmful residue behind. We switched to Ecolabels that can be entirely composted, including the adhesive part.
